March 2008

RAPID presented two posters summarising key outcomes of the programme so far at this year's Leverhulme Climate Symposium. The public event, held this year at the Royal Society in London, was attended by many public and private sector stakeholders and comprised of six climate themes - one of which being rapid climate change. RAPID presented work summarising our monitoring work underway in the Atlantic and research into historical episodes of abrupt climate change.

Electronic versions of these posters can be downloaded by clicking on the thumbnails below.

August 2007

RAPID Atlantic mooring results published in Science The latest results from the RAPID Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (of which the "Gulf Stream" is a part) observing team have been published in August 17th's edition of Science. The first of these papers (Kanzow et al., 2007) demonstrates the effectiveness of RAPID's monitoring and observing approach. The second paper (Cunningham et al., 2007) analyses the first year's continuous measurements of the Atlantic Meridonal Overturning Circulation (or AMOC) strength - from April 2004, to April 2005.

Follow this link for briefing information on these results.

January 2007

The UK Climate Impacts Programme have produced an updated briefing note describing recent results from the RAPID Atlantic moorings, and additional research presented at the International Science Conference last year. You can access this document via the UKCIP website or directly here!

Along with our own briefing note issued in October 2006 this UKCIP document provides an excellent summary of ongoing findings from the RAPID programme and further notes will be circulated as more projects return results.
