Making and using a Secchi disk

The Secchi disk is an easy way to measure how deep into the water light can travel. Just lower the disk into the water until you can no longer see it - the Secchi depth.

The Secchi depth gives you an idea of how deep plants can grow (roughly 3 times the Secchi depth in UK waters) or how deep you can dive before you'll need a torch.
